CTFAS Webinar: AI in Cosmetic Innovation and Bioactive Discovery (Public Sign-Ups)
- Monday, October 28, 2024
3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
The growing demand for innovative cosmetic ingredients and formulations, with a strong interest in natural ingredients, presents new challenges and opportunities for the cosmetic industry. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the pharmaceutical industry has demonstrated a significant reduction in development costs and time, achieving reductions by 50 to 70%. A similar benefit is expected for the cosmetic industry, although the challenges are distinct. Unlike in pharmaceuticals, where formulations typically contain one or two active compounds, cosmetic formulations often combine many active ingredients. The ability to predict synergistic or antagonistic effects between these ingredients is therefore essential.
Additionally, the increasing interest in natural extracts in cosmetics, which may contain hundreds of active molecules, presents another significant challenge as well as an opportunity. In this presentation, Dr. Coralie Ebert, co-founder of MeNow, will explore how AI can address these challenges. She will propose approaches for using AI to predict the effects of cosmetic ingredients and formulations on the skin. A methodology for in silico predictions of synergistic effects, compared to in vitro methods, will also be presented. Lastly, one of the final points discussed will be the use of AI to optimize extraction processes and discover new active molecules that were previously unknown.
Dr. Coralie Ebert will demonstrate how these advances can transform the development of cosmetic products, paving the way for faster and more efficient innovations, thus meeting consumer and market expectations.
